A Closer Look at C95800-Made Y-Type Filters

  Basic Structure and Function

Y-type filters are coarse filtration equipment for pipelines, named after their "Y"-shaped flow channel structure in the filter element unit. Their core components include a valve body made of C95800 material, filter baskets (or filter screens), end caps, and blowdown ports. During operation, fluid enters the filter basket through the Y-shaped flow channel; impurities are trapped in the filter media, while clean media is discharged through the outlet. This protects subsequent equipment such as valves and pumps from particle wear or blockage.

Material Properties and Adaptability of C95800

C95800 is a nickel-aluminum bronze alloy, categorized as cast aluminum bronze. Its performance advantages adapted to filter working conditions are reflected in the following aspects:

Corrosion Resistance: It exhibits excellent corrosion resistance to seawater, brackish water, industrial cooling water, and slightly corrosive media (e.g., some organic acid solutions). Particularly, it has outstanding resistance to erosion corrosion and cavitation corrosion, making it suitable for humid or salt-containing environments such as marine engineering and ship pipelines.
Mechanical Strength: It has high tensile strength and hardness, enabling it to withstand pressure surges in pipeline systems. Typically, it is compatible with pressure classes ranging from PN16 to PN40. Additionally, it boasts good wear resistance, allowing it to handle fluids containing small amounts of hard particles.

Casting Performance: It is easy to cast into complex flow channel structures, ensuring the smoothness of the Y-shaped flow channel and reducing medium pressure loss.

  Application Scenarios and Installation Specifications

Typical Applications: It is often installed at the suction end of centrifugal pumps, upstream of control valves, or in ship ballast water systems. It is used to intercept solid impurities with a diameter of ≥100μm. The filter screen precision can be selected according to requirements, such as 40 mesh or 100 mesh.

Installation Points: It must be installed in accordance with the medium flow direction indicator. The filter screen end should be tilted downward-this is the typical installation orientation for Y-type structures, facilitating impurity sedimentation. The connection to the pipeline is mostly flange connection, complying with ANSI or DIN standards; threaded connection is applicable for some small-caliber models.

  Maintenance and Operation Precautions

Regular Blowdown: Trapped impurities should be discharged regularly through the bottom blowdown valve (usually a ball valve or plug valve) to prevent excessive pressure loss caused by filter screen blockage.

Filter Screen Cleaning: When the pressure difference between the inlet and outlet exceeds the set value (generally 0.1MPa), the end cap should be disassembled to remove the filter basket, and then cleaned with high-pressure water or solvents. C95800 material can withstand conventional cleaning agents; strong oxidizing acids should be avoided.

Material Compatibility: Although C95800 has excellent corrosion resistance, it should be kept away from strong oxidizing media (e.g., concentrated nitric acid) or high-concentration chloride ion environments-long-term exposure to such environments may cause pitting corrosion. The medium composition should be verified during model selection.

With the material advantages of C95800, this type of filter balances filtration efficiency while adapting to harsh industrial environments, serving as a crucial pre-treatment device in pipeline systems.
