Nickel alloy valves are widely used in harsh environments such as high temperatures, high pressures, strong corrosion, and low temperatures, thanks to the excellent properties of nickel alloys (including corrosion resistance, high-temperature strength, and low-temperature toughness). They are primarily classified by their structural forms, which align with the basic classification of general valves. The key difference, however, lies in the use of nickel alloy materials for critical components (such as valve bodies, valve cores, and seals). The common types are as follows:
1. Nickel Alloy Globe Valves
Structural feature: The valve disc moves linearly along the centerline of the valve seat. While they have relatively high flow resistance, their sealing performance is excellent.
Application scenario: Suitable for occasions requiring precise flow control and strict sealing, such as high-temperature and high-pressure pipelines in chemical plants (for transporting corrosive media like sulfuric acid and hydrochloric acid) or low-temperature systems (such as supporting equipment for liquefied natural gas).
Nickel alloy advantage: Nickel alloys (e.g., Monel 400, Inconel 625) used in the valve body and valve disc can resist corrosion from both reducing and oxidizing media, ensuring structural stability even after long-term contact with highly corrosive fluids.
2. Nickel Alloy Ball Valves
Structural feature: A spherical valve core with a through-hole is used to control on-off operations. They offer advantages such as quick opening and closing, low flow resistance, and reliable sealing.
Application scenario: Widely used in pipelines that require frequent switching and low pressure loss, such as offshore oil and gas platforms (to resist seawater corrosion), pharmaceutical production (for transporting high-purity media), and the nuclear industry (to withstand radiation and erosion from high-temperature coolants).
Nickel alloy advantage: The nickel alloy ball core and valve seat have high hardness and wear resistance, enabling them to maintain stable sealing performance even under high-frequency switching and avoiding leakage caused by medium scouring.
3. Nickel Alloy Gate Valves
Structural feature: The valve plate (gate) moves vertically relative to the direction of medium flow to achieve on-off control. They have low flow resistance when fully open but are not suitable for throttling purposes.
Application scenario: Commonly used in large-diameter pipelines that require full opening and closing, such as petrochemical refining equipment (for transporting high-temperature oil and gas), power plant boiler pipelines (to withstand corrosion from high-temperature steam), and the metallurgical industry (to resist erosion from acid-containing wastewater).
Nickel alloy advantage: Nickel alloys with high-temperature strength (e.g., Incoloy 800) can prevent deformation of the valve plate and valve seat under high temperatures and pressures, ensuring smooth opening and closing without jamming.
4. Nickel Alloy Check Valves
Structural feature: They rely on the pressure of the medium itself to automatically open and close, preventing medium backflow. Common forms include lift-type, swing-type, and butterfly-type check valves.
Application scenario: Essential in pipelines where backflow is strictly prohibited, such as chemical reaction towers (to prevent reaction failures caused by backflow of corrosive media), cryogenic storage tanks (e.g., pipelines for liquid oxygen and liquid nitrogen, to avoid safety hazards from external gas ingress), and water supply systems in high-rise buildings (to resist corrosion from water quality).
Nickel alloy advantage: In low-temperature environments, nickel alloys (e.g., Inconel 718) can avoid low-temperature brittleness, ensuring that the valve clack and spring can respond flexibly to changes in medium pressure without breaking.
5. Nickel Alloy Butterfly Valves
Structural feature: A disc-shaped valve core rotates around an axis to control flow. They offer advantages such as a simple structure, light weight, and large flow capacity.
Application scenario: Suitable for large-diameter pipelines requiring rough flow adjustment, such as environmental protection wastewater treatment (to resist acid-base corrosion in sewage), desalination plants (to withstand erosion from seawater and brine), and ventilation systems in high-temperature workshops (to resist oxidation from high-temperature air).
Nickel alloy advantage: The nickel alloy valve plate and valve seat have good elasticity and corrosion resistance, maintaining a tight fit even after long-term use and reducing leakage caused by medium erosion.
